Slovak Design Award 2025: The Most Prestigious Slovak Design Award Launches a New Edition!

The Slovak Design Award (NCD), a nationwide competition and the highest recognition in the field of design in Slovakia, is opening its next edition and continuing its tradition of supporting and showcasing exceptional Slovak design. The competition, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023, is established as a stable and respected platform that significantly promotes Slovak designers and manufacturers, helping them succeed both domestically and internationally. The NCD also encourages collaboration between professional designers, manufacturers, and clients, systematically maps the development of design in Slovakia, and actively contributes to design research and professional journalism.

New Challenges, New Opportunities

The current edition of the Slovak Design Award is characterized by innovation and flexibility in response to changing conditions. Due to state-mandated public finance consolidation, the format of accompanying events is being adjusted. However, the organizer – the Slovak Design Center – emphasizes maintaining the continuity and high standard of the competition. The priority is to minimize the impact of these changes on participating designers as well as partners and supporters of the event.

One of the most significant innovations is the shift of the presentation of submitted, nominated, and awarded works from traditional exhibition spaces to online and public – urban – spaces. As a result, the outcomes of contemporary design work will be even more accessible to the general public. A key presentation tool will also be an electronic catalog, offering an overview of awarded and nominated works in a modern and easily accessible format.

Thus, the National Design Award in 2025 once again confirms its position as a key platform for supporting, presenting, and promoting design in Slovakia – with an emphasis on professionalism, innovation, and openness to new challenges.

Seven Categories, a Broad Spectrum of Creativity

The NCD 2025 competition is open to professional designers, design students, experts in product design, as well as clients and manufacturers. It offers submission of works in seven categories: Fashion and Fashion Accessories, Sport and Leisure, Home and Public Space, Work and Mobility, Art and Design & Craft, New Horizons, and Student Design. Detailed specifications of the categories are available in the Competition Rules.

Entries may include works that excel in originality, innovation, creativity, and positive impact on society or the environment. The works will be evaluated by a seven-member expert jury, whose members will be gradually introduced during the campaign.
