The Whole Is Less Than the Sum of Its Parts
The publication The Whole Is Less Than the Sum of Its Parts is based on research into the neo-avant-garde artist Petr Bartoš (1938) and his unique methods of presentation. Designed as an atlas with alternative binding and folding sheets, it reflects Bartoš’s bulletin board aesthetics, where he creatively assembles images and texts. Alongside Bartoš, the catalog features Slovak and Austrian artists who share a non-anthropocentric view, challenging human superiority over the non-human world (animals, plants, and nature). While aimed primarily at a professional audience, the publication’s design makes it accessible to a broader readership. Mira Keratová is the author of the publication and research.
