Deprived
“No one shall be deprived of life.” – Article 15, Section 2 of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic. Over the 30 years of the Slovak Republic’s existence, more than 3,000 people have lost their lives to violence in our country. Most of their names remain unknown, but some victims are etched into our collective memory because their deaths were caused by power, hatred, or intolerance. Their stories reflect the challenges of Slovak statehood. These silenced witnesses remind us how much we have failed as a country and society because we could not protect them and their human rights. This exhibition aims to remind us that human rights are not a given, that the struggle for freedom and democracy is ongoing, and that no one should be deprived of life, dignity, freedom, respect, privacy, property, or human rights.
