DESIGN FORUM 2025. ILLUMINATED. History and future of Slovak lighting design

The Slovak Design Center and the NATIONAL EXHIBITION agro-complex cordially invite you to the Design Forum student project exhibition again this year.

Curated by Maroš Schmidt, the exhibition will feature works by talented students from two universities. The Slovak Design Museum and the collector of historical lighting fixtures, Peter Kováč, will also make their unique collections available to you.

The exhibition entitled ILLUMINATED brings light to a compact space not only in the literal but also figurative sense – it reflects the history, present and future of Slovak lighting design. The aim of this exhibition project is to present an attractive shape history together with inspiring designs by future professional designers, who, through their work, call for the renewal of the lost glory of lighting design and production in our territory.

If we want to know the future of design in Slovakia, let’s take a look at the work of design students at our universities. The task of creating a functional prototype on a real scale was also given to students of the Industrial Design Studio of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Institute of Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Slovak University of Applied Sciences in Bratislava. Two different approaches to one assignment promise an objective probe into the near and distant future of lighting design.
