100 Years of Design – The First Exhibition of the Slovak Design Museum
The exhibition “100 Years of Design” is temporarily unavailable due to updates that will bring numerous new works and insights.
The first exhibition on the history and present of Slovak design and applied arts is the result of several years of scientific research and collection work by the Slovak Design Museum. The exhibition showcases research and works from Slovakia, representing the period from 1918 to the present, all part of the museum’s collection. Its goal is to present, in a clear and inspiring way, the story of the origin and development of design in Slovakia, covering major fields and phenomena.
The exhibition includes over 500 items from the fields of design and applied arts, spanning from 1918 to the present. It aims to provide an overview and inspiring narrative about the evolution of design in Slovakia, encompassing all relevant areas and phenomena. The exhibition will be available to visitors for at least two years and will feature a regular public program starting in September, including guided tours for schools and lectures on the presented topics.
The selection was curated by a team led by Head Curator Maroš Schmidt, who stated: “The primary mission of the Slovak Design Museum is to research the works of designers and manufacturers in Slovakia. The exhibition aims to tell the story of design’s formation and development in Slovakia in a comprehensive and inspiring way, covering all essential areas and phenomena. Our exploration continues beyond 2018 and delves deeper than 1918.”
The exhibition was created with support from its founder, the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, paper distributor Antalis, and SCD’s general partner J&T Bank.
