A Quiet Stay on Gwerkovej-Göllnerovej Street
Alžbeta Gwerková-Göllnerová (1905–1944) was a literary scholar, historian, and translator. Co-author of the extensive book Woman of the New Age (1938/1939) dealing with the education of a democratic woman, she was also an active participant in the Slovak National Uprising. In her literary reportage, Anna Grusková uncovers Gwerková-Göllnerová’s legacy through archival research, interviews with contemporary witnesses, and visits to museums and libraries. Set against the backdrop of historic Banská Štiavnica, the book offers a vivid portrait of this pioneering democratic woman. Designer Ester Mládenková’s use of the Slovak Mining Museum’s photographic archive, photo album format, and layered typography emphasizes both the complexity of Gwerková-Göllnerová’s literary contributions and her life. The book was published in two editions (2022/2023).
