U.F.O. The Art of Fantastic Dematerialization
The catalog for the exhibition of the same name at the Slovak National Gallery, curated by Aurel Hrabušický, is inspired by one of Július Koller’s works. The exhibition explores the evolution of conceptual art in Slovakia, focusing on its formative phase from 1963 to 1972. Unlike the analytical and systematic approaches of Anglo-Saxon conceptualism, Slovak conceptualism was characterized by a more fluid, dematerialized art form—emphasizing concepts, ideas, plans, and theoretical constructs that may or may not materialize into physical artifacts. The catalog itself embodies this conceptual approach, featuring a transparent cover with a grid and “scattered” texts on a white soft cover, reflecting the exhibition’s thematic focus.
