Publikácia –  Initial Initiative Initialization of Initials

The publication examines the phenomenon of the initial not only from history to the present but also looks at the initial and its meaning as such. It explores its possible meanings, its relationship to the text, and the entirety of the book itself. It collects visual and written materials and describes the initial from various perspectives. It addresses concepts that discuss the initial in connection with illustration, illumination, ornamentation and terms related to the use of the initial in the book, marginalia, headers, chapters, and so on. It also covers the initial and its relatives such as emblems, kalograms, and many others. The publication includes created initials that disrupt but also complement the text in various ways. The publication is the result of my diploma thesis.
