Design Diaries in Budapest: An Invitation from the Slovak Design Center

Slovak Design Center, a partner of the event, invites you to Design Diaries, a new event series launching on 24 September at editory, a venue in Budapest.

What do designers from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary have in common? What challenges do they face in their respective countries? What opportunities are available to them, and what does the journey from an initial idea to a realised product look like?

These are among the questions explored by Design Diaries, a new recurring event series that brings together the personal stories of designers and theorists from Central and Eastern Europe.

On 24 September, at the invitation of the Budapest-based collective edit, designers and creatives from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary will meet to speak openly about the realities of design practice in their countries.

Design without filters

Design Diaries is not intended as another conventional portfolio presentation. Each invited guest will have eight minutes to introduce their work, experience and projects—above all, the stories behind them. The programme will also address how local conditions shape designers’ work and their opportunities to collaborate with manufacturers.

The first edition of the series will focus on object-making and product design.

Slovakia will be represented by Silvia Seneši Lutherová, design and art historian and theorist, and Dávid Valovič, artist and designer.

They will be joined by:

• Anett Sáfrán (Hungary) — product designer specialising in ceramics

• Stanisław Stupkiewicz (Poland) — designer and art director

• Natálie Navrátilová (Czech Republic) — product designer

• MAIII Collective (Hungary) — design collective

From presentations to conversation

The short presentations will not be followed by a conventional panel discussion. Instead, the organisers aim to create space for informal conversations, networking and the professional exchange of experience.

Design Diaries offers a valuable opportunity to connect design communities and bring together makers and professionals from different countries. Formats such as this encourage the sharing of experience, new perspectives and collaboration, while also fostering a better understanding of how—and in what contexts—design is created today.
