BioWdesign
BioWdesign presents the research of the Department of Furniture and Interior Design at the Technical University in Zvolen. The project resulted in five prototypes of furniture and home products, which were showcased at two major international events: Salone del Mobile – Milano 2024 and Biomim’EXPO Paris 2024.
The research team explores the unique properties of wood as a material, from its microstructure to its macrostructure, revealing what makes wood a true design wonder. Using the principles of biomimicry and biomimetics, the project investigates new ways of understanding and applying the natural qualities of wood in design.
This year, BioWdesign was nominated for the Gold Idea Design Award and ranked among the TOP 100 projects selected from more than 3,500 exhibitors at Furniture China 2025 and Maison Shanghai 2025 in Shanghai.
We look forward to welcoming project author Zuzana Tončíková and project curator Elena Farkašová from the Technical University in Zvolen.
