Boyhood

Adam Kukuc- main designer
Sylvia Jokelová- pedagogue

When I was a little boy, we had a shelf at home full of small tractors and toy cars. I never enjoyed playing with them. I didn’t know how to drive them around or make engine noises the way my brother did. My childhood was full of stereotypes about how boys were supposed to behave, how they should express emotions, and what toys they were allowed to play with. In my imagination, I transformed that shelf full of tractors into a complex tea-making machine. In this project, as an adult designer, I return to my childhood and borrow an idea from my younger self. I intentionally use archetypes of boyhood that were imposed on me and highlight the issue of gender stereotypes.
