ZOOŠI

Marián Dorušinec- main designer
Martin Baláž- pedagogue

ZOOŠI is a set of six children’s toys, abstracted from children’s drawings created during workshops held as part of the design process. They are made from Malai, a biocomposite derived from coconut-water waste that, in feel, resembles animal hide. Malai is non-toxic, vegan, and water-resistant; it lasts four to eight years and then begins to biodegrade without burdening the soil. For these reasons, Malai became the collection’s primary material. The animal shapes are designed to support and stimulate fine-motor skills and natural hand movement. Each toy is supplied as a sewing pattern: the child cuts out the pieces and hand-stitches them into the final animal. The series serves as a tool for developing fine motor skills while also addressing the climate crisis.
