Traditions of Hope and Possibilities (Golden Zuzana)

Patrik Illo- main designer

What does tradition mean to us? Is it something that gives us pride? What can we build on and confidently shape the present? What gives us hope for the future, the sense that if we managed it once, we can do it again? Or is it something that stirs in us a sense of loss, misunderstanding, and unfulfilled hopes? Golden Zuzana was a legendary set designed in 1956 by glass master Jozef Staník and produced at the glassworks in Zlatno and Katarínska Huta, with a total of around five million pieces made. The chalice “Tradition of Hopes and Possibilities (Golden Zuzana)” was made by glassmakers at the R-Glass glassworks. Its shape directly refers to the original Golden Zuzana, but it is no longer stable. It keeps moving, restlessly back and forth… or perhaps it simply sways, softly and nostalgically.
