Liminal Cycles
Liminal Cycles is a multisensory installation by Crafting Plastics, commissioned by Lexus and presented at Miami Art & Design Week 2024. Made primarily from biomaterials derived from renewable sources, especially the fully compostable Nuatan®, it creates a responsive ecosystem of four interactive objects that breathe, shift color, emit scent, and react to human presence. At its center is a sculptural interpretation of LF-ZC concept car, whose breathing rhythm and chromatic qualities change with environmental stimuli. Bridging material science, sustainable mobility, and sensory design, Liminal Cycles transforms Lexus’ vision of SDVs into a living, emotional experience. The installation proposes a future where intelligent materials are not only circular and renewable but also deeply poetic, acting as mediators between humans and their environment.
