Eutro Table Lamp

Hana Rehorčíková- main designer

The lamp is crafted from panels made of common reed, an invasive plant that has spread along the Baltic Sea due to eutrophication, a process driven by excess nutrients from industrialization. Dense reed beds reduce biodiversity and decompose rapidly, further harming the ecosystem. Responsible harvesting helps restore coastal habitats and removes excess nutrients from the water. Despite this, reed has low economic value in Finland, which makes harvesting unprofitable. This project explores high-value uses by employing a binderless process that relies only heat and pressure (no glue) to form durable monomaterial panels. The lamp demonstrates reed’s potential to help clean the Baltic Sea and to support a circular bioeconomy through regenerative design.
