Coats of Change
In the project “Coats of Change: Crafting Woolen Coats in a Warming World,” I created a collection of felted textiles inspired by the climate crisis. The work explores where traditional and contemporary techniques for processing sheep’s wool meet, with an emphasis on innovation in textile design. The motifs are divided into four themes: dying coral reefs, melting glaciers, extreme drought, and forest fires. I also examined the influence of folk dress on contemporary textile design, striving to preserve traditional garment forms while reinterpreting them in a modern context. Each coat in is complemented by a woven headpiece inspired by the baranica (fur cap) and the shape of a traditional bonnet, crafted from fabric scraps to emphasize a sustainable approach to making.
