Earth pigments

Dielo tvorí súbor textílií, ktorý je dočasným výsledkom skúmania v oblasti textilného farbenia s ohľadom na sociálno-environemntálnu udržateľnosť. Surovinou na farbenie/tlač sú pigmenty získané z rôznych hornín a minerálov alebo dreveného uhlia. Tieto suroviny je možné nájsť v lokálnom prostredí, ktoré svojou geografiou definuje farebnosť. Pigmenty sú miešané so záhustkou bohatou na rastlinné bielkoviny získanou zo sóje a iných strukovín, ktorá zaisťuje prenos a fixáciu pigmentov na textílii a zároveň dopomáha k farebne sýtejším odtieňom. Obmedzenie tejto technológie v podobe limitovanej farebnej škály alebo často nepredvídateľného výsledku nabáda k možnému prehodnoteniu vlastností farbených textílií ako je napr. trvanlivosť vyfarbenia, ktoré by mohlo prispieť k predĺženiu životného cyklu materiálu.

The work consists of a set of textiles representing the ongoing research in the field of textile dyeing in the context of socio-environmental sustainability. The dyeing/printing is done using pigments obtained from various rocks, minerals, or charcoal. These materials can be found in the local environment, the geographic location defining the colour result. The pigments are mixed with a protein-rich binder from soy and other legumes. This binder ensures the transfer and fixation of the pigments on the fabric, while creating more saturated shades. The limitation of this technology, such as narrow colour range or an often-unpredictable result, encourages a possible reassessment of the desirable properties of coloured textiles, e.g., the colour-fastness, which could extend the material life cycle.
