Dignified Menstruation: The Menstrual Cabinet

Katarína Onderková- main designer
Kristina Roman- main designer

Dignified Menstruation began in 2020 as a civic initiative and later joined the NGO InTYMYta. Its primary goal is to address period poverty and menstrual exclusion in Slovakia—issues that threaten health, dignity, and social inclusion. In 2023, the collective Spolka developed a modular design for a menstrual hygiene cabinet, focusing on functionality, legibility, and DIY assembly. The open design allows the use of local or recycled materials and is distributed through a freely available manual. In 2024, the product was refined for serial production in collaboration with Švec Group, increasing precision, durability, and efficiency. The project shows how design can drive social change and create inclusive public spaces.
