Through our work, we are dedicated to preserving and reviving a unique craft in garment production, the art of hand pleating, which has almost disappeared in Slovakia. Pleating is the art of folding materials to create textures on fabric. The oldest textiles with a plissé structure are more than 4,000 years old and were discovered in Egypt. Pleating arrived in Slovakia through fairs, and people began to decorate their traditional garments (folk costumes) with this technique. Today, hand pleating can elevate and transform any material into a work of art. We believe hand pleating carries a breathtaking history that deserves to be developed into its contemporary, 21st-century form. In our practice, we use traditional methods, pleating in paper molds that have existed for decades, while approaching the craft innovatively and with respect.
